TARAPACA GRAN RESERVA 150th
Tarapacá, under different ownership and management, has been producing wines for 150 years, always with a focus on Maipo Valley vineyards. This 68% cabernet sauvignon, 30% syrah, and 2% cabernet franc is entirely from estate-owned vineyards surrounding the Tarapacá winery in Isla de Maipo, planted on granite and clay soils. It’s a red wine that’s very much in the house’s style – the smooth texture, the herbal and fruity aromas in similar measure, the very fine, sharp tannins. Score – 93. (Patricio Tapia, guiadescorchados.cl, 2024)
Taste : Robust and powerful reds are full-bodied or very full-bodied wines that have rich flavours.
Due to oak maturation, you can discern powerful spicy notes. High tannins lend these wines a good structure.
Tips for use : Due to their tannins, these wines are a good match for equally robust foods, such as game and other hearty meat dishes or strong cheeses.
Try with venison or rabbit stew, herb-marinated lamb chops or strong cheeses, such as aged Gruyère or Roquefort.
How to serve : Red wines are best served slightly below room temperature, at 16–18°C. Chilling a bottle from room temperature to the perfect serving temperature takes about half an hour in a fridge.
